Unveiling Rihani's Bust at a New Memorial in Lebanon

In the presence of H.E. Mr. Gaby Layyoun, the representative of the President of the Republic of Lebanon, Mr. Michel Suleiman, and in the presence of the Ministers of Culture, Education, Parliament Members, and other officials, a large bust of Ameen Rihani was unveiled in Mid Metn, in Mount Lebanon, on Thursday, July 28 at 6:30 PM.

Speakers were poet Henri Zgheib, H.E. Sheikh Mohammad Hasan Al-Amine, H.E. Supreme Judge Dr. Ghaleb Ghanem, Mr. Amine Edmond Al-Ashqar President of the Municipality of Deek el-Mihdi Deir Tameesh, and Dr. Ameen Albert Rihani. More than 500 people attended the ceremony from different districts in Lebanon and from the Arab World. Lebanese and Arab media agencies were present to cover the event. The ceremony was accompanied with the musical band of the Lebanese Military and ended with a cocktail for the guests.

The Ameen Rihani Memorial is a unique cultural spot in Lebanon. It is located at a major crossroad on the main Antelias-Bikfaya highway, and has been built in the middle of a pine tree garden approximately 400 square meters in area. A 75 meter long walkway leads the visitor to the memorial which takes the shape of a circular platform constructed with a granite finish. On the semi-circular wall around the bust are excerpts of Rihani’s writings in Arabic and English and have been engraved on the inner face of the wall. On the outer face of the circular wall are quotations from writers around the world about Rihani. Rihani’s bronze bust is approximately 2 meters tall, 90 cm wide, 75 cm deep, and has been erected atop a pedestal in the middle of the tiled circular platform which is 60 square meters in area.
