Lecture on Rihani in London

A lecture in honor of the United Nations Year of Dialogue Among Civilizations was presented on Thursday June 21, 2001 at the Nehru Centre in London. Organized by the prestigious Temenos Academy, this program fits in perfectly with the theme of the L. M. Singhvi lectures, which were endowed by Dr. Singhvi as a gift to the Temenos Academy on his retirement as Indian High Commissioner to London. The Academy has previously invited speakers like His Holiness The Dalai Lama, Dr. Singhvi, Sayyed Hossein Nasr, and the Bishop of London. As a Patron of the Temenos Academy, His Royal Highness Prince Charles of Wales has provided his full support to this event.

The lecture entitled Lebanon's Dialogue with the West: Ameen Rihani and Arab Civilization was presented by Dr. Suheil Bushrui with readings by Tom Durham, and was chaired by Mrs. Guilda Navidi-Walker.

Dr. Suheil Bushrui is a distinguished professor of English Literature and Chair for World Peace in the Center for International Development and Conflict Management at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland. He is also a Rihani scholar and a member of the Academic Council of the Ameen Rihani Institute in Washington, DC.

Mr. Tom Durham is an actor with a special interest in poetry. He currently features as a regular reader for BBC Radio Arts.

Mrs. Guilda Navidi-Walker is the Special Advisor for Diplomatic Relations to the World Wide Fund for Nature.
