The Middle Eastern Studies Department at Syracuse University, New York, has announced the launching of “Khalid Project”, with the purpose of “exploring cultural coupling
through literature”. The objective of this project is to edit Ameen Rihani’s The Book of Khalid based on the first edition that was published by Dodd Mead and Company, New
York, 1911, and to add the necessary footnotes that clarify the cultural terms often mentioned in the book.
Professors of Middle Eastern Studies at Syracuse, in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Toronto, Canada, together with Guttenberg electronic publishing
project of world classics, joined efforts to achieve this monumental venture for readers and scholars around the world.
The editors of this significant project have mentioned in the introductory notes that “unlike Khalid [we] are not ready to burn the novel”… And due to “its relevancy to
today’s world” the editors invite readers to respond to this work and have this website a forum for discussion. A main feature of this project is the possibility of comparing
the newly edited text together with the scanned original text of the first edition of 1911.
The reader may visit this website and add his/her comments at The Book of Khalid Project.
